    A HOME / CHEZ SOI

The inspiration behind the exhibition, as well as the name of the installation – Et hjem / Chez soi – is taken from the museum's current exhibition, Harriet Backer (1845–1932) – The music of colors (available until 12 January 2025). Backer, Norway's most famous female painter, often depicted everyday life in her art and immortalized people in the intimate spaces of their homes. In today's troubled world, with reminders of war, climate crisis and economic uncertainty, our homes serve as havens of safety and comfort. This collection of Norwegian designer furniture and objects has been created to cultivate a space for dialogue, connection and reflection. A place to find peace. A home.

It was a great pleasure to be showcased alongside other talented artists such as Ali Gallefoss, Eyvind Solli, Fjordfiesta, Flokk, Fram Oslo, Heymat, Hydro, Matre, Northern, Stressless, Varier and Vestre at the exhibition in Paris. Standing side by side with such talented colleagues inspires us and shows the power of Norwegian design and craftsmanship. Kirsten Visdal created a strong and coherent presentation of what Norway has to offer the world.

A diversity of Norwegian design in the heart of Paris

From 22 to 24 November 2024, Le Fumoir at the Musée d'Orsay was transformed into an impressive exhibition called Et hæm / Chez soi, curated by Kirsten Visdal. Here, visitors could experience Norwegian design in an exciting mix of classic and modern style.
The exhibition was a collaboration between the Musée d'Orsay, the Royal Norwegian Embassy in France and Design and Architecture Norway (DOGA).
Curator Kirsten Visdal highlighted the contrast between the minimalist beauty of Norwegian design and the grandeur of the iconic museum, emphasizing how the understated elegance of Nordic craftsmanship creates a powerful and unique dialogue in such a remarkable setting.
It is always inspiring to be part of a community where creativity, quality and craftsmanship are at the heart of everything. At the exhibition in Paris, we had the pleasure of standing side by side with some of the leading players in design and craftsmanship. Their work inspires and reminds us why we love what we do.

    FROM FÅBERG TO PARIS

It’s a long journey from the small town of Fåberg to the international design scene in Paris, but this journey represents the essence of what we stand for – a passion for craftsmanship and design with roots in Norwegian nature and tradition. Together with other outstanding players in Norwegian design, we had the opportunity to show what we can do, and be part of an exhibition that highlighted both individuality and community. Paris became an arena to share our story, our inspiration and our vision with the world.
