In a research collaboration with SINTEF, ment® developed a completely new material - magnetite porcelain. Magnetite is a "Norwegian" mineral that was formed a billion years ago at the bottom of the sea. The iron ore and minerals create, among other things, a multitude of color shades in combinations that cannot be predefined. The natural magnetite mixed in porcelain gives amazing natural color mixtures and results in unique products - "We say that ment® creates, but nature decides," says Sidsel Forr Hemma.

To emphasize the proximity to Lindesnes and to create a distinctive touch to some of the products, sand from the beach outside the restaurant was used to get the look of the rugged coastal area. The pieces are not only made up of magnetite porcelain, but the objects combine several materials, including wood, stoneware and clay. The collection also includes elements of ment®'s signature products and designs.

The design includes plates, bowls, toothpick holder, coffee and tea cups, milk jug, sugar bowl and water jug. More than 700 products have been produced for the restaurant and handmade at Fåberg where the ovens in the old ski factory have been running around the clock to be ready for the opening of Under in April 2019. There is great interest in ment®'s collection for Under, especially internationally. Many design publications have highlighted the exclusive, unique Norwegian design where the inspiration of nature has become so prominent.

ment® also sees the products for Under as a confirmation of their sustainability philosophy; unique products made with and from natural materials - that will delight generations to come.
